Larger scale projects often benefit from economies of scale. District Energy projects provide heating and/or cooling to multiple buildings using a network of pipes. Combining district networks with renewable and alternative energy can be the lowest cost and lowest carbon option at community scales.

ETA Energy Solutions has designed district energy solutions from small community scales up to concepts for the entire city of Fort McMurray heated by waste heat. Canada has a long way to go to catch up to world leading countries like Denmark where the majority of the country is heated by large interconnected district heating networks.

But technical advances like PVT, high temperature heat pumps, and seasonal storage are now available to unlock low cost zero carbon heating for virtually anywhere in Canada.
